Today marks the 16th anniversary of the attacks of September 11th. A day that changed the lives of millions. Today we somberly remember the lives lost that day and the families forever changed. We also take the time to reflect on the thousands of military and civilians, American and Afghan, whose lives have been lost in the subsequent conflict. To us they are sisters, brothers, and friends.

As Veterans who served in Afghanistan, we are committed to honoring their service and sacrifice. Each saffron flower holds in it the hope for a better future. These attacks which sought to divide have united us with our Afghan partners.

16 years later there are many challenges, but there is also irrevocable progress. Peoples who were disconnected are now intertwined in a business relationship. Rural Afghans view Americans as their best customers.  They take pride in knowing the fruit of their labor connects people through food a world away.

Join us today in remembrance and optimism. The world is more connected than ever before. Together we can cultivate peace and ensure that events like 9/11 will never happen again.
