Shawarma is a traditional Levantine dish, typically consisting of cooked meat that is shaved off a spit. It’s okay if you don't have a spit to roast at home, we aimed to mimic the flavors captured by the spit in our bold and earthy Shawarma spice blend. With minimal ingredients and prep, you can bring the bold flavors of shawarma into your home kitchen.
In a large mixing bowl, mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, Shawarma spice blend, and salt.
Add in the chicken and toss to coat. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Preheat a large, oven-safe skillet over high heat. Coat with a drizzle of canola oil. Once hot, add in the chicken (you should hear it sizzle). Sear until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 2 minutes per side.
Transfer the baking dish to the oven and roast until the chicken is tender and cooked through, about 15 minutes more.
Remove the chicken from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing it into thin strips.
Serve the chicken shawarma on pita or wrap or over mixed greens or Basmati rice. Top with your favorite vegetables and sauces.
