Dates are a staple in the evening Iftar meal (celebrating the breaking of the daily Ramadan fast), eaten for their historical significance as well as their nutritional value. These delicious stuffed dates, complete with a Harissa-spiced maple drizzle, are a perfect addition to an Iftar meal or an easy dinner party app. Sweet, savory, and packed with protein. A guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
Stuffed Dates with Harissa Maple Drizzle
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Carefully slice down the long side of each date and remove the pits.
Stuff the insides (where the pit used to be) with your preferred cheese. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cut-side down.
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, Harissa, and a pinch of salt.
Brush (or drizzle) the tops of each date with your Harissa-spiced maple syrup.
Top each date with a sprinkle of flaky salt and crushed pistachios (omit the salt if your pistachios are salted).
Bake until the cheese is warmed through and the nuts are lightly toasted, about 5-8 minutes. Let cool before serving.
