Nice cumin.

The cumin was great. Flavorful, yet small, so I didn’t need to grind it.

Very good cumin

This cumin is a little different from “regular” cumin seed I can purchase at the grocery. It’s a little darker in color and the seeds seem a little smaller. Is it better? I don’t know, but it is very good and fun to have a little splurge with something new.

Robust Flavor

The flavor of the Rumi Spice Wild Black Cumin is amazing, and there are so many ways to use it. For example, we use it to make a lovely spice blend with Herati Whole Seed Coriander and black peppercorn. Another blend we make is Wild Black Cumin and cardamom seeds. We also sprinkle the whole seeds over basmati rice when cooking. The aroma! It is a versatile and full-flavor spice. My husband is originally from Afghanistan, and Rumi's mission is near and dear to our hearts. We support them for who they are and what they do. Their good work makes available truly special spices that can be used to make any number of dishes more flavorful and delicious.

Our Sourcing

Indigenous to the Old Persian Empire, black cumin is virtually unknown outside of the Middle East. Our Black Cumin grows wild along the foothills of the Hindu Kush Mountains in Afghanistan where mountainous terroir adds an extra layer of sharp earthy and piney flavors that differentiates our cumin from the more common varieties available.

Hand-harvested Afghan foragers in this region, sourcing this exotic spice furthers our social mission of creating agricultural jobs for the people of Afghanistan.

This cumin, both whole seed and ground, have an extra depth of flavor that I haven’t found anywhere else. There are other small companies selling locally sourced cumin but none compare to Rumi’s. I won’t use cumin from anywhere else."
